Half Moon Bay beach

This beach is normally very quiet as not a lot of people know about it. Therefore, it’s not just great for a quiet walk but also the perfect spot to train your dog if you’d like to do this outside.

We always love to go here for a walk with our dog Biggie as he can just run around and explore while we do some training with him at the same time. Also, your dog can be off the leash on this entire beach which makes it unique as most of the beaches won’t allow this.

How to get there Half Moon Bay beach

When you take the exit off the highway to Trinity Park, all you have to do is keep driving straight. At some point you will see the Bluewater sign on your left – make sure you continue driving straight on the round-abound as you are almost there. Once you arrive you will see a decent sized parking area, which has a public toilet, bike rack, picnic bench and a water tap for you and your dog.

Once you walk towards the beach you will see you can go 2 ways. I would recommend going both ways as both of them will give you a different experience.
When you walk toward the right side of the beach you will be looking at Yorkey’s Knob marina. This part of the beach can get quite narrow depending on the tide. If you go here early in the morning you will have some amazing views of the mangroves and tiny inlet that runs into the Blue Water Estate.
Please be aware that crocs might be present here as many locals have spotted them in this area.

The Development Area Half Moon Bay beach

When you are at the inlet you can walk back via the sandy path which leads you into the Development area. It is a great area to explore with your dog as they haven’t started building here yet. A lot of dog owners actually go here to walk their dogs as its such a nice area – we hope they will never start building here.

This area is very good for training your dog as its leads to a more secluded area where its almost impossible for you dog to escape. You will see more dogs here because of this but the numbers are next to nothing compared to the other beaches in the area.

One of our favourite things to do here is go all the way to the end, sit on the rocks and enjoy the sunset while Biggie is exploring the area.

This side is also the start/end for one of the Earl Hill trails. This part of the Earl Hill Trail has a lot of steps and is quite steep. If you’re interested to do this track on the Earl Hill with your dog we would recommend doing this with a dog who’s fit and loves a challenge as it can be quite tough going up.

Biggie’s verdict

Biggie verdict of Half Moon Bay Beach

This is an awesome spot for me to become an even better boy. I still require some more training as I always get side tracked by all the other doggies when we go outside. At least at this beach I can be a good boy and listen to my mom and dad – at least I try as much as I can – as there are not that many dog friends around!
