The Nest is a rustic holiday home located close to the Millaa Millaa Waterfall circuit on the Atherton Tablelands. The home is located on a 30-acre farm with amazing views. It makes the perfect place to unwind and relax with your family, friends, and of course furry friend!
If you’re looking for a special get away, this may be the place for you! The Airbnb is really one-of-a-kind, with beautiful views and lots to do in the area. The owners have done an amazing job decorating the house, and made it feel like the perfect holiday home to enjoy with your family and friends. The house is mostly built from containers, and they have used different recycled materials for the build and the decoration. Don’t be taken back by the fact that it’s a container home, as it has such a homey feel to it and at the end of your stay you wish you didn’t have to leave!
The house has a beautiful high ceiling in the living area and lots of windows to make full use of the stunning view. It also has a fireplace to keep warm on those chilly Tableland nights. They have a complete kitchen with oven and gas-stove with everything you need to make some delicious food during your stay. There are some barstools set-up in the kitchen as well as a massive wooden table in the living room. We loved sitting at the large table in the evening to play board games. The owners have provided a box full of board games that you can make use of, so no need to be bored at all during your trip!
The Nest has 2 queen-size bedrooms, and each room has their own bathroom. One bathroom even has a spa!
Biggie absolutely loved the outdoor deck that was overlooking the dam and the Tablelands Hills.
They even have a dog bed on the deck so Biggie felt right at home from the start! The deck also has a large table were you can play board games or hang out with friends.
They have a dam that was filled with Barramundi and other native species. Biggie enjoyed looking at the fish and even attempted to go for a swim himself. As the water wasn’t really great for swimming, we did keep him out of the water though which he wasn’t too happy about.
You can go for a walk on the property however we would recommend wearing some hiking boots as it’s a bit of a tough walk.
We would definitely recommend booking this Airbnb some time in advance as it’s a very popular place. The place is located in a beautiful area and so unique, that you will probably planning your next trip as soon as you leave!
Bookings can be made through Airbnb when looking for ‘’The Nest’’.
Located between the hills and the cow-fields is the Mungalli Creek Dairy Café. They’re a biodynamic dairy farm who make milk, ice-cream, cheese and more. They are definitely worth a visit when you’re staying in the area. And as they have their own café where they serve some of their home-made goodness, we’d highly recommend to stay for lunch as well! They have seating inside, on the deck and out on the grass with picnic benches. Dogs are allowed on the deck as well as outside and we took Biggie here to enjoy a large cheese platter outside. Biggie can testify that the cheese was delicious!
Another fun activity in the area which is dog-friendly is the Shaylee strawberry farm. It’s a great place to take your kid(s) as you can pick strawberries in their strawberry field which it lots of fun for the little ones. Dogs are not allowed on the field itself however are allowed outside of the Two Strawberries Café. They serve a great selection of food here and we made sure we tried their strawberry soft serve. It is quite touristy though so it can get very crowded on certain times of the year. If you’re not a big fan of big crowds or your dog isn’t, we’d probably recommend avoiding public holidays and school holidays.
As the Airbnb is located on the Waterfall Circuit, there is plenty to explore when it comes to waterfalls. However, unfortunately dogs are not allowed at most of the waterfalls as they’re located in a National Park. The Zillie Falls is the only waterfall without the ‘’no dog’’ signage and allows you to bring your dog. We took Biggie to the Zillie Waterfalls for a little adventure which he really enjoyed. It’s only a short walk to the waterfall and if your dog likes water, it’s perfect for them to cool off. The water is shallow and has pretty easy access. Just be careful yourself when trying to get into the water, as the rocks can be quite slippery (we know from experience)!
As we all love the luxury of an Airbnb, The Atherton Tablelands also has many amazing locations to go camping with you dog!
