Kewarra Beach

Where can I take my dog in Kewarra Beach? In this post we will tell you where you can take your dog for an amazing walk and enjoy some good food in Kewarra Beach! Cairns has some amazing beaches where you can take your dog and the Kewarra Dog Beach is definitely one of Biggie’s favourites. It is also the first beach Biggie ever went to, which makes this spot extra special to us.

The right side of the beach is a dog-friendly and off-leash area. Your dog can run around here, meet new friends and go for a swim. Especially in the mornings and late afternoons this is a great spot to take your dog for a walk and have them play with their fur friends as it’s not too hot during these times of the day. Just be mindful that crocodiles may be present in these waters so you have to be a bit careful when letting your dog swim. We always make sure Biggie doesn’t go too far into the water and keep an extra eye out.

This area of the beach is where we take Biggie most of the time as he can run around freely and have a great time.

There are also water taps just behind the beach where your dog can have a drink or you can use to wash them off.

Do make sure you check the tide before heading to Kewarra Beach because at high tide it isn’t ideal to walk over the beach. check the tide

If you’re not that comfortable letting your dog off the leash or you just want to have a quiet walk on the beach with your dog by your side, you can go for a walk on the left side of the beach. On the left side past the barbecue area, you have a dog-friendly on-leash beach. Depending on the tide and mostly after the rainy season, there is a little creek running throughout the beach which is a nice and refreshing spot for the dogs. On this side of the beach you can also find the Beach Shack.

The only spot in FNQ that has a setup like this! You are literally sitting with your feet in the sand and they always have great entertainment. The Beach Shack has changed their concept after the pandemic and we think it’s amazing!

They invite different local food trucks on the days they’re open so you can try out something different every time! Unfortunately, the Beach Shack itself is not dog-friendly. However, you can order some drinks and food and take it out onto the beach (it’s a public beach) and sit down on a blanket enjoying the entertainment. Sunsets on the beach here are stunning, so make sure you don’t miss it!

The Beach Shack is closed during rain season but open on specific days during dry season (From around May to November). Check out their opening days and hours on their website.
